Yaya Sanogo keeps his place in the Arsenal team for the Champions League last-16 first leg at home to Bayern Munich, with Olivier Giroud on the bench.
Sanogo made his first start of the season in the 2-1 FA Cup win against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, with Giroud also among the substitutes then. Sanogo didn’t have a single shot on target against Liverpool.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insisted Giroud’s absence was not due to disciplinary reasons. Wenger said: “He [Sanogo] is playing well, it’s as simple as that.
“You can debate every position from the first to the last. Giroud has played a lot of games recently, and it’s important we give him a game to refresh and come back strong.”
With Mikel Arteta suspended, Jack Wilshere plays alongside Mathieu Flamini in midfield while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain retains his starting spot, having scored one and set up the other of Arsenal’s goals on Sunday.
For Bayern, Bastian Schweinsteiger has to settle for a place on the bench.
