Italy goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu spoke honestly of his rivalry for the Azzurri number one shirt with Gianluigi Buffon, stating it’s an honour to train alongside the veteran.
The PSG custodian sat beside coach Cesare Prandelli during the Sunday press conference ahead of their Monday night match against Nigeria.
The former Palermo keeper was asked whether he felt unfortunate to be in the national set up with one of the best goalkeepers of all time.
“It’s an honour to be training alongside Gigi. It’s a dream given that as a youngster I looked up to him as a role model and to be working with him in the Azzurri squad is a huge satisfaction.”
The Ligue 1 player was also asked whether he would like to meet Buffon in this season’s Champions League.
“It would be great to be up against him in this competition.
“However, given that Juventus are such a strong team, it may be best to avoid them. At least until the latter stages of the tournament!”
Sirigu is expected to start tomorrow evening for the national team against the African giants at Craven Cottage.
