Inter president Erick Thohir has stated that he wants to make the Nerazzurri a successful club both on and off the pitch.
The Indonesian recently completed his purchase of 70% of the club from Massimo Moratti, and he is confident he can emulate the Italian’s success at the club.
“It’s important for us, the new management, to make sure Inter are winning, exciting to watch but also healthy financially to compete with the other clubs in the world right now,” Thohir told the press.
“This is something Mr. Moratti, the new management and myself would like to underline.
“The football industry has changed, a lot of new regulations are coming in, for example, FIFA Financial Fair Play will be established soon.
“There will only be 10 recognisable clubs in the world game in a decade because they will be winning and healthy. Inter will be one of those.
“Our aim is to make sure our club will be stronger.
“So the new management, together with Angelomario Moratti, the board of directors, myself, Handy Soetedjo and Rosan Roeslani, we have to work hard, we have to focus and work together to make this happen.”
Despite the Nerazzurri undergoing an overhaul in the summer after the departure of Andrea Stramaccioni, Thohir believes that Walter Mazzarri is the right man to lead the club forward.
“The fundamentals have been established in last three months, but of course the next two-three years are a challenge for us to make the team sustainable and compete,” Thohir said.
“That’s the reason we visited Mazzarri, we trust what he’s doing. And hopefully we can become consistent and become a winning team again together.
“The role is tough, hard, but I really believe as I mentioned before, that with hard work we can make Inter what Mr. Moratti has done continuously.
